Experience
VSP and stop motion shooting process has turned out highly beneficial for me, as it has brought me insights into the core of concept and execution. The most enjoyable activity was in a group because the functions that each group member assigned were very helpful in achieving the intended goal. What I found most demanding about this project was managing the lights, this made me realize how important it is to carefully select lights to achieve the right looks and set the right mood. The other thing that I found satisfying was to see the final edited product. It developed an appreciation for people in the industry and the immense effort and precision that are needed to deliver great results.
On the other hand, when I ventured into stop-motion shooting, I also had my hits-and-misses and joys-and-pains experience as well. Taking individual shots of scenes to make a smooth motion picture required a lot of effort and care. It was inspiring to stage each shot, and to see the static models transform was a worthy sight. This technique highlighted areas such as storyboarding the scenes, planning the shooting and arranging actions as they shot scenes in a way that worked in harmony resulting in the effect they wanted.
The completion of these experiences has made me appreciate the intricacies and the creativity of the two disciplines. VSP being a collaborative piece of work and stop motion animation that brought out the minute details of filming reciprocated the idea of the multidimensionality of skills that go into making good visuals. All in all, these have enriched me with more understanding of the art that goes into filmmaking and animation, which makes them among the most meaningful projects I have embarked.
Observations
Several observations have therefore been made. VSP involves teamwork to the extent that each team member’s input is valuable to the successful completion of the project. The aspect of lighting was singled out from the works due to its contribution to setting the overall visual style and atmosphere, further emphasizing the specifics of technical positions. The act of seeing the final edited video is fulfilling and comments such as the above underscore how every aspect, including pre-production, is invaluable in arriving at the final edited product. Besides, it has helped in developing a considerable level of respect for professionals operating in the field highlighting the effort that goes into practicing professionalism with a keen eye on details.
In stop-motion shooting the method to shoot each frame to get fluidity for the animation was time-consuming and precise. This process also confirmed that any small change that was made to the product affected the final product and therefore stress the importance of setup and standardization. A clear progression in the manner in which models were transformed from mere static sequences to animated sequences was evident and supported the method. Storyboarding and movement planning turned out to be very effective for coordinating the flow and obtaining the required level of animation. Thus, these observations give an insight into the intricacies of creative thinking and practical skills, which are required to create beautiful images for both domains.
