Looking at colour grading and colour correction as stages of postproduction of digital video, I realize that the processes of these tasks are as peculiar as they are since they encompass a director’s vision and provide the visual spectrum. Getting the initial impressions in focus or establishing the picture profile is the first stage and defines how the camera records light and tone. This first of these steps eliminates this problem by establishing a basic consistency of footage, and so streamlining the following stages. If filmmakers decide to use a particular picture profile, they can choose it in such a way that the recorded footage preserves as much useful information as possible, which will be needed and useful during post-processing.

Colour grading is the next stage, which, unlike colour timing, is about achieving as realistic a look as possible. This step entails making corrections on the hue, saturation and brightness as made to adjust any anomalies resulting from the kind of light circumstances of the environment or camera settings. It is a slow process akin to painting a picture and every shade needs to be achieved in a perfectly equal manner across all scenes. If not corrected properly, these issues will disrupt the continuity needed during the shot, hence applicable colour correction right helps in creating continuity in the scene as per the planned look.

The last one, colour grading, is part of refining the look of the video, adding a layer of creative vision. This is not just a correction but helps the filmmaker maintain the feel of the scenes and impart the desired atmosphere to the shots. Therefore, colour grading through hue, saturation and brightness controls the vividness and the shift of the shaded emotional context, to follow the story. From the warm and borrowed sentiment of ‘looking back in anger’ to the cold realism of ‘I rang will’ and ‘1984’ alike, the concept of colour grading is a force that, when applied, can augment the video narrative even more incrementally than viewers are accustomed to. I can now understand that the process of colouring in a digital video involves a thin line between creativity and technique borne out of precision.

fig 1.1 Shooting With The Team (27/05/2024)

I had fun today and learned a lot of stuff from everyone, it was raining when we were in the middle of filming so it kinda lowkey sucks :/ I love how everyone is friendly and helpful and I truly love my team a lot as everyone was so kind to me and thanks to their cooperation, we finished our shooting fast so it was an early wrap for all of us!

After the shoot, I patiently waited for my team's producer to send over the clips that we had filmed earlier and I began with the editing process. But first I downloaded the clips and audio from Google Drive that was provided by my team's producer.

I began moving the downloaded clips to Adobe Premiere Pro to begin the editing.

Experience
My experience in Video Sound and Production has been very enriching to me mainly because it is a teamwork process. Everyone had their job description in the group, and having everyone focus on their area of speciality was engaging and constructive. I was specifically in charge of the lighting and this revealed to me how important lighting is in creating the right atmosphere and beautifying the event.

Having to go through the editing part was perhaps the most exciting part of filming because seeing the final work was satisfying. The moments, when all the aspects that we studied fit into the footage, were exciting to watch. It reminded me how essential every position is in contributing to the production of a well-coordinated project. I consider as one of the best experiences that I encountered and if given the chance I would like to do it again. It would be impossible to not find this a completely enjoyable experience because of the creative process inherent in it, working in groups, and our work featured in the final project.

Observations
This has cultivated in me a lot of respect for professionals in video sound and production. The commitment and the effort that are invested in the process of making a movie are worth the shot. We students that is being a part of and manage information technology projects should not only be willing to learn the technical direction of these projects but also develop the patience of a saint, creativity, and attention to detail. Every step of the process, of preparation, shooting and cutting of the movie, requires devotion and patience. It has been rather insightful to witness how all these aspects culminate in the development of a distinctive and interesting plot. This has expanded my knowledge of the kind of skills that go into it and the amount of work that goes into creating a story via films.

Findings
First, people work together and many assigned tasks are interconnected, so the work of each participant greatly affects the final result of the group performance. Second, the significance of the lighting in defining the visual presentation and vibe of the film is emphasized thus showing the effect of this element on the plot and feeling of the movie. Third, there is a sort of creative fulfilment on seeing the final edited version wherein transitions such as visuals, sound, and editing are put together in a methodical and curious manner to present a riveting film. Lastly, this gave me a much greater appreciation for industry professionals and really looks to showcase just how much effort, time, and focus on detail is involved in producing quality work.
