Design Principles | Task 3 : Design
1. Task 3 Brief
We will have to come out with a work of design, inspired/influenced by the one we had analysed, or as a reaction to it after analysing the design of our choice in Task 2. Design Principles should be applied as well. We may use any medium or materials to convey the visual message.

6. Rationale
In my design, there is a sea turtle on a drought island with a saddening representation of the environment, a plastic bag is also wrapped over its head, making the turtle struggle to breathe. Against the backdrop of a burning forest covered with drifting smoke and dust, the turtle attempts to reach a scarcely visible water on the left side. The symbolic use of a tyre for the turtle's body serves as irresponsible waste disposal, while also carrying the weight of hope that the world can be lively and peaceful again. There is a big luxurious tree in the middle of the tyre with birds that are flying around freely while also surrounded by flourishing flowers and plants, creating a scene of unparalleled beauty. Even though my UNSDG goal is Life On Land but in my opinion, life on land and life in water, share an intricate interdependence. Both are essential expressions of living ecosystems, which in all life, regardless of their habitat, hold profound significance.
I illustrate my work the way contrasting colours with bright interplays have a striking impact. In the meantime, there is a soothing tranquility in the harmony of the colors, while the full-bodied green colour of the tree overwhelms the other paintings and show a vibrating energy which fuses the whole artwork into a single unit. Moreover, the intricate details of the tyre bring into the picture a sense of unity and harmony whilst making it nice and smooth for onlookers to look at from afar as well as to make it expressive with the repetition of the pattern to make up a harmonious rhythm all through. Moreover, a subtle but mesmerizing energy develops as the eyes is drawn to the movement of the turtle, struggling to reach the scarcely visible water.
At first, I found myself uncertain about the direction of my design. So I seek inspiration online, particularly on a website called Pinterest, which then sparked many ideas into me. I then illustrate these inspirations in sketches, allowing my mind to explore various concepts. After explaining my ideas and presenting them to Miss Jinchi, I transitioned to Adobe Illustrator to begin the design process of my preferred sketch. Choosing the right shade of colour was the most challenging for me, especially the colours of the shadow and the highlights. Because I started task 3 early, I had plenty of time and I didn't have to rush so I was quite chill throughout the whole process. The journey of sharing my progress with Miss Jinchi was seamless, and her insightful feedback proved invaluable in refining my design. Thanks to her guidance, I was able to identify and rectify mistakes, such as the incorrect angle with the ground part, which I didn't even realize was off.

7. Feedback from the Lecturer
Week 4
Sketch is a bit confusing, you need to explain it really well on the rationale part about the turtle and tyre situation. Consider adding more elements, making use of the space around the turtle (left and right). Any visual reference that inspires your design later on, remember to put it on the blog.
Week 5
The angle of the ground needs to be fixed as the tyre and the ground do not match, suggest finding visual help from the internet and studying the angle more before drawing. Love the background. Adding more elements would be great, maybe consider drawing out baby sea turtles' eggs being stolen away.. etc
Week 6
The water is good, you can see that it is polluted. However, try to make the overall design more dusty and dirty again, and utilize the right side of the turtle. Make one more design with the same thing again but try adding more green to the trees (get rid of the dead branches and the industrial building, the smoke and smear around). The design improved a lot compared to last time. Good progress and good job.
Week 7
Explain why you design your artwork in the rationale part. Opt for option 2, looks better so go for it. The colour of the turtle should be darker, so change that. Express more on the rationale part. Option 1 goes into the process part. Remember to save all the blogs into PDF files and then combine them together.
