Design Principles | Task 2: Visual Analysis

Artist: Thiagoneumann
Year: 2012
Medium: Digital Art

1. Task 2 brief

This task is to assess, investigate, document and analyse the existing art or design work we elected in Task 2. We have to study the design principle that is found in the art, as well as the size, placement, purpose and effectiveness of the design in relation to the UNSDG goal that we have chosen.

2. Visual Analysis Explanation

The format of this piece of art is portrait. The artwork's central feature, a large whale, represents both land and water. There are several varying-height trees on the right side of the property, with vegetation and vines encircling their branches and birds soaring around unhindered. Moreover, a person is fishing while perched atop the whale's lip. There are towering trees with a gear-like structure on the left. It also has a person moving about and performing tasks. The poster as a whole stands out due to the well-balanced combination of cool and warm colours in the graphic components. It is an extremely intricate piece of art with significance.

This artwork illustrates the use of contrast to produce an eye-catching visual observation that grabs viewers' attention. It is balanced symmetrically. The focal point of the picture is the whale in the centre, while it also extends to the area above and below the whale's head. Movement and variety of the birds are shown, like the whale's blowhole and tail (which is swimming). Moreover, fish are leaping out of the water while other fish swim around a fisher who is seated and fishing on the corner. Another individual is strolling around on the left. A diver with some sea turtles. The upper portion of the artwork has repetition and scale of trees, gears, and birds. This art displays a sense of unity and harmony.

According to this website, the purpose of this work was to put an end to the 2012 XII Regional Meeting of Agroecology. The artwork, as shown by Debbie Clark in River of Living Water ( Image A ), and by xrsotheastuk ( Image B), appears to have the same message. Each of the three was intentionally created to increase the audience's awareness regarding the significance of preserving the environment for both terrestrial and aquatic life. It demonstrates the idea that it should not be exploited for profit and profoundly acknowledges that animals are living things with feelings and emotions of their own.
