Bachelor Of Design (Honours) In Creative Media

IDEA DEVELOPMENT

1) Write a biography about yourself

INTRO

My name is Carmen and I’m 19 years old. I’m currently taking Bachelor Of Design In Creative Media. My hidden talent is I can make an elephant out of my body and I’m the youngest in my family!

PARAGRAPH 1

My goal right now is to get good grades and I look forward to graduate later. I’m learning a lot of new stuff at the moment, thanks to my family, friends and my lecturer.

PARAGRAPH 2

I adore design, therefore I know I'm on the right track at this moment. I'm not sure what my future job title will be, so I'm simply going to have to trust the process and follow where my life takes me.

SUMMARY

I don’t really have a lot to ask for at this time, I just wanna make my parents proud and hope for them to retire at an early age when I will come out in the industry later and work with a stable job.

2) Write a statement about your work

INTRO

I'm not sure what I'm going to do at first, but I know for sure that it will be something artistic and visually appealing because I enjoy soft colours in general and my favourite colour is pink.

PARAGRAPH 1

I wanna compile all the things I love into one as this assignment project is all about yourself. My favourite colour is pink and I have 4 pets rabbits. My friends often think the character that represents me the most is Barbie and I personally love all the Princesses and Barbies movies since when I was a toddler.

PARAGRAPH 2

In terms of hobbies, I love painting and I would often paint if I had the time to do so. That also explains why I ended up choosing this course for my degree.

SUMMARY

“Barbie as Rapunzel” would be a great example of aesthetic that I will be going for since she loves to paint too and owns a talking rabbit. The cinematography in this movie is also stunning. Overall, I want my outcome to be a very princessy look.

3) Mood Board

I want my poster to be overall a very princessy look with flowers and nature.

Bunnies represent me as a person and my favourite pet.

Imagine being a princess yourself while doing your favourite hobby surrounded by greens and flowers.

DESIGN DIRECTION

fig 1.3 First Sketch

Since I wanna go for a princess look, I tried to sketch roughly and compile all the elements that fit my description. In order to symbolize nature and the feeling of a princess, I also included a river at the bottom and pearls on the side

fig 1.4 Second and Preferred Sketch

This is my second sketch which is also the final sketch I chose to go for. I tried to include a building with flowers in it as well to bring a different perspective.

PROCESS OF DIGITAL POSTER

Once my sketch is done and I'm satisfied with it, I then start to attempt my digital poster in Adobe Illustrator.

fig 1.5 A Picture of Self-Portrait

This is gonna be the picture that I'll use for my digital poster. I like the lighting in this picture and it would be great to use it for my work as the sunlight is part of the vibes that I'm going for as well to show the aesthetic of my digital poster.

Before I start to compile everything in Adobe Illustrator. I first edit myself out of the background using Adobe Photoshop.

I also use the airbrush tool to refine my hair in the picture.

After that, I export it and convert it to Adobe Illustrator to start gathering all the elements.

1.8 the process of gathering all the elements

I used the pen tool to draw out the rose and its pink which represents my favourite colour, brush which means I love to paint, butterflies and fonts. For the fonts, I used the dimmed-down opacity method to trace out the shapes and each stroke of the letterforms. Initially, the fonts were supposed to be around the mirror frame but then it was a bit too messy as there was a lot of contrast so I changed the position for the fonts in my poster and drew vines on each of the letterforms. I had plans on animate the butterfly later on in After Effects so I make sure that it's on separate layers.

This is my final poster.

After that, I began with the animation in After Effects.

Here, I put the file into After Effects and start to animate each of the layers. And then I proceed with the butterfly wings step by step. I get confused about how to use the 3D effects, It's not perfect but at least I've tried.
