Timeframe: Week 04 - Week 05
Description: We are to carry on from proposal development and continue to develop the final proposal with a comprehensive design proposition. It shall contain the curation of the production process while demonstrating resourcefulness and creativity in effectively channeling and managing resources and potential risks to drive solutions in the complex and dynamic environments and/or contemporary real-world settings.
Since we start our rough sketch from the previous task and the content on our board game. I went home and continued designing the visuals of our board game.
Me and Rafa decided to work together on the card games. I will design the minigames cards, while Rafa will work on the Role Cards. Here is the sketches.
To get more knowledge about the traditional games in Korea. I decided to ask in our group on what kind of games I could include in the card and everyone brainstormed together.
After getting everything, and with the help of my group mates of how the visuals gonna look like on each game, I start with the designing.
I've decided to design the instructions for the Minigame Cards to be open like this as I think if I straightaway place the instructions on the back of the card, it will not look nice.
After showing to Ms Vit, she said the visuals all together is not consistent and that we should stick to one theme of the visual.
She even asked us not to get too stressed and give us some tips and what will happen for the exhibition later in next semester and even sketch out for us.
After discussing with my groupmates, we come up a colour palette that we should stick to for all the elements of our board game and we decided to stick with these.
We also tried to play our game as Ms Vit suggested we should so we know which part we should improve on or change.
We also divide our task so everyone and contribute together.
I will work on the logo and the instruction booklet of WHODYTHINKUR?. Seoyoon will work on the visuals of the minigame cards. Rafa will work on the visuals for the role cards and lastly Graciella will work on the visuals of the board game and the instructions for the minigames.
We also stick to a font that we found on Google Fonts.
I will start on the instruction booklet. I put all the points in the Google Doc so my teammates can see them as well.
Next, I will work on the Logo.
Here is the First Draft.
Here is the Final look.
Here are all of the progress of my groupmates.
Here's our updated design of our Mini Games Card.
After week 6 feedback, we finalised some designs on the logo, role cards, minigame cards and coin.
FEEDBACK
Week 4: Try to play the game first and see what needs to change, for the card games for the back view, make sure to put your logo and not some squid game shape as people are playing your game.
Week 5: Do not directly copy of Squid Game. It's okay if you're inspired by it but don't create a rip off version. The logo and the overall vibe does not give out the creepy side so work on that. Try to reflect the minigames into Southeast Asia cultures as your games is mainly focus on Squid Game's games.
Week 6: Add more blood stain or fingerprint texture on the card and the board to keep the consistency. When applying texture, make sure to use the blending mode to blend in with the existing design. For role cards, change to a mugshot background so it makes more sense.
REFLECTION
It was a demanding and rewarding experience to work on WHO 'R U? design
propositions. I worked hard with my group members to create sketches and
graphic concepts that would best convey our project. We discovered that
our early sketches lacked coherence after consulting with Ms. Vit,
particularly with regard to the color scheme and typography. Her comments
made it clearer to us how crucial it is to preserve a consistent design
identity in order to guarantee a powerful and identifiable visual
direction.
The process of designing was challenging because we
had to repeatedly strengthen our concepts. We put a lot of effort into
refining our first drafts, ensuring that all the colors, typefaces, and
general aesthetic elements complemented the project's desired subject.
Although there was a lot of trial and error during the process, it was
satisfying to watch how our drawings developed into a more cohesive and
finished idea.
Despite the challenges, this experience taught
us the importance of teamwork, meticulousness, and flexibility in design.
An important aspect of the process was learning how to improve our work
and accept constructive criticism. Our sketches eventually became a
stronger, more unified design that accurately captured our concept.
